India illuminates its monuments in blue

This week, many buildings across the country including the major monuments are being turned blue to mark ‘World Children’s Day.’

The birth anniversary of the India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru is marked as Children’s Day every year. The celebration is expected to grow bigger in the coming days when ‘World Children’s Day’ would be celebrated globally.

The buildings have been turned blue this week as a symbolic way of showing the undeterred support to create a more safer and healthier environment for children.

November 14th to 20th is celebrated as “Child Rights Week.” Across the globe, events are organised to make children aware of their rights and how to access those rights.

According to Hindustan Times, that UNICEF reported that last year about 230 buildings across the country registered support for ‘World Children’s Day’. Rashtrapati Bhavan, Prime Minister’s office, the Parliament building, Qutub Minar, Kolkata’s Howrah Bridge, and Hyderabad’s Charminar were some of the iconic structures which illuminated blue as a mark of solidarity for children’s rights.
