A drone attack was repelled by the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev reported early on Saturday. TASS a Russian news agency reported that a powerful blast was heard at about 4:20 am.
Sevastopol, the main city on the Crimean peninsula, was attacked as Ukrainian and Russian forces were involved in a bloody battle in Kherson province, which acts as the entry point to Crimea. In 2014, Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine. Sevastopol has served as a significant port and naval station because of its advantageous location and the accessibility of the city’s harbors.
In the Crimean port of Sevastopol, Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet was targeted by a drone strike, which Moscow blamed on the UK and claimed “minimal” damage to one of its ships. Though their has neither any confirmation nor claim from Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
Russia has been targeting smaller stations which supply electricity from last couple of weeks. Razvozhayev said earlier this week that a drone had bombed a thermal power plant close to Sevastopol. At July, a drone had also attacked the Russian fleet stationed in the harbor.
Russia began invasion in Ukraine in February, and they invasion took place from multiple places, and Crimea was one of them.
