Roger Federer, on Thursday, took to his Instagram and announced that he will retire after the Laver Cup in London. His social media post read: “I’m 41 years old, I have played more than 1,500 matches over 24 years, and tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt.”
Further, he added, “The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour.” “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, to everyone around the world who has helped make the dreams of a young Swiss ball kid come true,” he concluded.

As soon as Roger announced his retirement on his Instagram handle, social media broke with congratulatory messages. Bollywood celebrities also reacted to Roger’s retirement. Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram story and wrote, “Genius” followed by red heartbreak emoji. Kareena Kapoor Khan, on the other hand, called Roger a “legend”.
Apart from Anushka and Kareena, Dia Mirza and Pooja Hegde also reacted to Roger’s retirement.
For those unaware, Roger won his first grand slam in the year 2003 when he won the Wimbledon title. He has since gone on to win 6 Australian Open, 1 French Open, 8 Wimbledon, and 5 US Open titles.
